Week 14

I'm grateful for this easy week.  All week it's just 3 miles.  Yesterday I went to the gym, and did 3 on the treadmill because I usually do Boot Camp on Monday's & Wednesdays after my runs.  Today it was absolutely gorgeous outside, so I loaded my daughter up in the jogger, and off I went.  I actually did a little over 3 miles, probably closer to 4 or just over, but I need the training.  It's perfect outside.  Tomorrow I will run on the treadmill at the gym, and then head to boot camp after wards.

Week 13

This was super busy week for me.  I was preparing for Fruita's Mike the Headless Chicken festival for the weekend, so I was working almost full time this week.  I did manage to get my runs in (barely), but I felt pretty good.  I went in Monday this week to get antibiotics from the doctor, because I just wasn't kicking whatever it was I had.  A successful week, but at the end of it I was super exhausted.

Week 12

I was still sick at the beginning of this week, but I still managed to get my miles in.  I was just thankful that it was an easy week with no really long miles.  I needed the shorter runs while I was recovering.

Week 11

This week, I did nothing.  I was so sick, and spent most of the time lying in bed, or on the couch.  What fun!

Week 10

This week started off with a gusto.  Due to time constrains I had to put my run in on the treadmill.  It was effective, but not compared to going outside where there is better training.  Though I recently read an article of a runner who won a marathon training entirely on a treadmill.  That will not be me, that's for sure.
Tuesday, I was able to catch a good run, and then head to a spin class.  Wednesday, I ran 4 miles with our local running group.  I felt really great, and was amazed that I could keep up (somewhat)  toward the end, I got pretty slow, but I made it.  We walked for about 10 mins after the run.
Thursday:  I woke up this morning pretty sick.  I've got some nasty chest thing, I feel like crap (can I say that?), so no running today.  I hate it when our body gets the better of us.  Not sure if I will be running the rest of this week or not.  I may go into the doc tomorrow.  Until next week.  Priscilla you are truly an inspiration!
Week 9

This week was super stressful because of our move.    I was able to get outside a lot this week to get my runs in, and was even able to bike to work. I feel like I am behind when I read my run partners blog.  She is embracing this training with full gusto, and going above and beyond.  I am 100% committed, some days I get a 2 hour work out in, others I'm just getting my runs in, and that's all I have time for.  I am just going to keep taking it day by day, and stay focused on the goal at hand.  Slow and steady wins the race.  I find that training while pushing a 27lb 3 year old makes you stronger.  I am able to go without stopping though.  It was all in all a good week despite moving and having to work extra hours due to a weekend event.  I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to share with a wonderful friend who I once shared the gospel with.  That will make 2 unforgettable experiences we can share together.

Week 8

It looks like my foot pain has worked itself out.  When I first ran this week 2 miles, I could really feel it in my hips, and I think that was because I was limping around all weekend compensating for not being able to walk on both feet.  I took Monday off, to rest my foot an extra day.  It was a good move, because I was able to run my miles this week.  I still need to run 4 tomorrow, but I think it will work out fine.  This was a slow easy week for me with no fillers.  I just followed the plan, and I feel good.  My trend for working out seems to be working out really hard one week, then the next its easy week.  Its a good thing, that way I can avoid over training, at least until I reach the high miles later on.  I'm scared for that!  I need some positive thoughts my way.

Week 7

I'm bumping it up to week 7.  Let me just say, week 6 was one of my better weeks.  My daughter was sick, but I was able to still get my runs in, and it was actually way more relaxed, because that was all I did.  I usually do my runs, then a spin class, or boot camp, so week 6 felt relaxed to me.  I also took it easy on my runs.

Week 7
I had a great start this week.  My runs feel less hard, and they are over before I know it.  That is a good feeling.  That being said, I think I may have injured myself.  I was running my long 3.75 run today, and just before I hit mile 2 my toe cramped up all the way to my heel, and put me at a dead stop.  As I write this, I cannot even walk on it without pain.  This is so frustrating so early on in the game.  I'm hoping it will work itself out, but I have had this problem for the last couple of weeks, just never when I run.  My mom knows a good foot specialist, which I will probably be calling.  I just about cried today, but all will work itself out.

Week 5

I am so blessed to have a training partner who is watching out for me and keeping me on my toes.  I have decided to make my blog a weekly blog, instead of daily.  It's much easier with the situation we are in for me to do this.

I had a good week this week.  Our training schedule was 2,3,2,3.  I felt good this week, and was even able to catch a spinning class, and boot camp.  I am ready to get outside and start running in the warm weather.  I am a serious cold weather wimp, but I guess I should get over it, because last year it snowed for part of the Rim Rock marathon.

I have already started week 6.  I feel pretty good.  My daughter has been sick with high fever and throwing up since Sunday, so I am just doing what is on the schedule and nothing else.  It kind of feels a little like I'm resting because I usually do a little of something else after my runs, so this is probably good for me.  I definetly don't want to over train.

Day 27

So today is my 4 mile day.  I went to the gym because my husband was doing a spin class which left me with the 3 kids, so I took them to the gym.  Which they always love of course.  I started my run on the treadmill, and got some serious side cramping.  I called it quits and did the stair climber.  I was bound and determined to get my 4 mile run in today.  After the gym we spent good family time together, going to the park, taking the kids out on their scooter.  Today is my baby's birthday she's 3!  I can't believe it.

Around 3pm after cleaning the house, and getting ready for the missionaries to come over, I went outside for my 4 mile run.  It was absolutely gorgeous outside.  I had a good run, and was glad to get it out of the way.

Day26

So today, was my 4 mile day, only I never made it to work out today.  I hope it's ok to switch up my days a little.  I woke up this morning with terrible (girl trouble).  I know several of my friends who say that a little exercise makes it better, but I can testify for myself that it makes it much worse for me.  So, I changed my rest day to today.

Day 25

REST DAY!  For my rest day, I went to a spinning class, which I love.  Spinning is so fun, and gets those different muscle groups working.  After spinning, I went to an ABS class.  I absolutely hate doing AB work, but I know I need to so I do it.  Our instructor almost never does crunches, it's usually pilates & planks.  One of these days, I'll stay for the yoga class.  I need some good stretching.

So far I'm feeling really great on this training program.  It has been the best one I have ever done by far.  I hope I will be saying the same thing once our miles increase.

Day 24

Today I mistakenly did 2 miles instead of 1.5.  For some reason I was thinking it was 2 again today,  but that's next week.  I felt really good running.  It was wet & windy this day, so once again I opted for the treadmill.

Day 23

This is spring break week for my kids, so I got up this morning and headed to the gym.  They love to play at the day care there.  They will ask me often if I can take them to the gym.  That makes it easy for me.  I did 3 miles on the treadmill at a .5% incline at 6.5.  I felt pretty good today, but it took me about 10 minutes to feel comfortable in my run.  I don't know if it's psychological or what, but I seem to have a more difficult time on longer runs.  I am really looking forward to getting outside again, when I'm outside time is of no consequence.  It's great that our longer runs later on in our training will be in warmer weather, and lighter outside in the mornings.

Day 22

I think I have my days off a little bit because last week I didn't record my rest day.  I have got to be better at getting on this computer every day.  It's hard to find the time, but it's better that playing catch up like I am right now.

Today was a 2 mile day!  I had a hard time getting myself out of bed because the kids have Spring Break, and my littlest one was up last night with a high fever.  I did it though.  I went to the gym because it was raining cats & dogs outside this morning.  I ran at a 6.7 at a .5% incline.  I felt good the whole way too.  I had a few extra minutes to work out before Erik had to go into the office, so I got up on the stair climber which always makes me drip with sweat, and did about 10 minutes of that.  I may do some push-ups/abs & leg workout tonight.

Day 20

REST DAY!  Traveling home at this point.  It's good to be back!

Day 19

1.5 mile day.  I love these low mile days as it give me more time to cross train, and focus on sprinting.  However, being out of town, it was kind of weak for me.  I will be happy to get back to training hard.

I am so impressed with my friends training schedule.  She continues to motivate me & keep me moving along.  Keep up the good work Priscilla!

Day 18

This was a 3 mile day.  I was out of town for 3 days having a girls weekend with my sister.  We went to Utah to visit my brother and catch a broadway play at the Hale Center Theatre.  Fiddler on the Roof!  We had a very fun much needed relaxing time.  My sister and I have made this a yearly tradition.  Last year we went to see Phantom of the Opera in Denver.

Just because I went out of town, did that stop me from running.  Well truth be told, it nearly did, but I got myself out and ran 3 miles maybe a little more.  It felt really great to be outside again.

Day 17

3 miles today.  I'm starting to learn that on the days I run longer miles I need to bring something with me to eat for after the run .  I keep making the mistake of eating before hand, and it's no good.  I had a pretty good run today.  I ran at a 6.5 without stopping, but I was not feeling good the entire time I was running.  I had a banana and peanut butter for breakfast, and it kept wanting to come up.  Sorry to be so graphic, but that's no good.  When I run shorter distance, I have no problems at all, but for some reason the longer miles I feel sick.  I think I'm going to have to experiment with those nasty gel packs when we really get to the big miles.   Today was a rushed day.  I had a voice lesson at 10, and with getting the kids out to school, and Erik going out of town, I feel rushed.  I did it though, and I felt good after.

Day 16

Today was my 1.5 mile day.  I started off the day early getting to the gym just before 7am, and I'm feeling pretty good.  I ran 1.5 miles at a 1% incline between a 6.3 & 6.5.  I didn't do sprints today.  This week, I'm just focusing on getting my workouts in because Erik's out of town, and it's going to be a little bit harder, but I will find a way.
When I completed my 1.5, I got on the stair climber for 20 minutes.  All in all a good work out, but like I said, I feel rushed this week.

Day 14

2 weeks down 28 to go!  Today I went to the gym with my husband.  I did the elliptical for about 40 min., then I got on the treadmill and walked at an incline for about 20 while my husband ran.  No lifting today.  After we finished our workout we attended a nutrition class held at the gym.  The class was interesting, but having a minor in nutrition I was prepared to disagree on certain nutrition issues (only because it was a body building coach providing the class).  Surprisingly, I agreed on most of what was said, except for the fact that she didn't think drinking freshly squeezed orange juice in the morning was a good idea.  After I expressed my opinion on the subject, no more was said about drinking freshly squeezed fruit juices.  Who ever heard of fresh fruit squeezed from it's pure form to be bad for you.  Really?!

I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to train for this marathon with a good friend I had the opportunity of doing missionary work with.  Hang in there my friend!

Day 13

Today was a 3.5 mile run.  I'm still on the treadmill, because it's cold and snowy, but I'm feeling pretty good too.  I did a little lifting after my workout today.

Day 12

Well, I am a little behind in my training log.  I feel like our life is a bit chaotic right now, so I have to record when I can.  I am so grateful for the stress relief training has provided thus far.  My training partner is a huge motivator for me, and I always feel so much better after I have completed my days training.  Day 12 was supposed to be a rest day, but today I did cross training, and went to a spinning class.  Spinning is really hard, and I usually sweat buckets, and feel like I'm going to puke, but feel so good after.

Day 11

Well, I woke up yesterday morning & it was snowing.  Ugh, I'm really sick of winter right now.  I'm ready for warmth!  So, I headed to the gym and the treadmill.  It was my 3 mile day.  I didn't feel so good working out this time, right away I got bad side cramps, and had to slow down.  I did the walk/run thing until my side aches went away.  I'm blaming it on the grape-nuts I had for breakfast, that was not a smart thing to do, and I don't think I will be doing that again an hour before I work out.  I'll stick with my banana & peanut butter.  So, I finished at any rate, though it didn't feel very effective to me.  Then, I went to spin class, which was actually a little bit easier than the running was for me for some reason.
I'm trying to be very careful not to over train.  Today, I'm running 1.5 miles, but I'm not going to do anything else after.  I will call it good, and post about today's run a little later.

Day 10

I just got back from the gym, and before I hop in the shower, I decided to log my days training. Hey that's pretty good for me.
Today was my 1.5 mile day. I walked on the treadmill for 5 min to warm up, then put I put the treadmill at a 1% grade incline and ran the first mile at 6.0 (slow & steady). It was very comfortable, I could talk, and I felt good. Then for the last half mile I threw in some sprints. The song Spaceman by the Killers is a great song to sprint to. After my 1.5 mile run, it was cool down time, and I just walked on the tread mill for another half mile.
When that was all said and done, I went to a circuit training class (mostly resistance training). It was a pretty good work out day.

Mom in Training - Day 9

It's official! I have decided to train for the Rim Rock marathon this coming November. Truth be told I am scared to death! I have never trained for a marathon before, and let's face it, 26.2 miles is a loooong way to run! When I last ran a half marathon, I could not imagine running another 13 miles, who would be that crazy? Well, it looks like I am.
What's motivates me even more, is that my good friend Priscilla is training for this with me. I'm not sure how effective my training would be if I didn't have a partner in this.
Slow & Steady wins the race, so we have found a training program that starts slow, and gradually builds. Avoiding injury, and making it to the end of the race is the key.

I am excited for this adventure, and so glad I have 9 months to train for this.
I'm starting this entry with Day 9. I have been following the training schedule, but don't have time to go through the other 8 days, but from here on out I will keep a faithful record. Here goes.

Day 9 - Cold & Windy outside, so it's off to the gym & treadmill for me. This can pretty much be expected until it warms up a little. I am a cold weather wimp. 3 miles, felt really good today. I went to a spin class after. That's probably too much, but I do like spinning.
