Day 14

2 weeks down 28 to go!  Today I went to the gym with my husband.  I did the elliptical for about 40 min., then I got on the treadmill and walked at an incline for about 20 while my husband ran.  No lifting today.  After we finished our workout we attended a nutrition class held at the gym.  The class was interesting, but having a minor in nutrition I was prepared to disagree on certain nutrition issues (only because it was a body building coach providing the class).  Surprisingly, I agreed on most of what was said, except for the fact that she didn't think drinking freshly squeezed orange juice in the morning was a good idea.  After I expressed my opinion on the subject, no more was said about drinking freshly squeezed fruit juices.  Who ever heard of fresh fruit squeezed from it's pure form to be bad for you.  Really?!

I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to train for this marathon with a good friend I had the opportunity of doing missionary work with.  Hang in there my friend!

Day 13

Today was a 3.5 mile run.  I'm still on the treadmill, because it's cold and snowy, but I'm feeling pretty good too.  I did a little lifting after my workout today.

Day 12

Well, I am a little behind in my training log.  I feel like our life is a bit chaotic right now, so I have to record when I can.  I am so grateful for the stress relief training has provided thus far.  My training partner is a huge motivator for me, and I always feel so much better after I have completed my days training.  Day 12 was supposed to be a rest day, but today I did cross training, and went to a spinning class.  Spinning is really hard, and I usually sweat buckets, and feel like I'm going to puke, but feel so good after.

Day 11

Well, I woke up yesterday morning & it was snowing.  Ugh, I'm really sick of winter right now.  I'm ready for warmth!  So, I headed to the gym and the treadmill.  It was my 3 mile day.  I didn't feel so good working out this time, right away I got bad side cramps, and had to slow down.  I did the walk/run thing until my side aches went away.  I'm blaming it on the grape-nuts I had for breakfast, that was not a smart thing to do, and I don't think I will be doing that again an hour before I work out.  I'll stick with my banana & peanut butter.  So, I finished at any rate, though it didn't feel very effective to me.  Then, I went to spin class, which was actually a little bit easier than the running was for me for some reason.
I'm trying to be very careful not to over train.  Today, I'm running 1.5 miles, but I'm not going to do anything else after.  I will call it good, and post about today's run a little later.

Day 10

I just got back from the gym, and before I hop in the shower, I decided to log my days training. Hey that's pretty good for me.
Today was my 1.5 mile day. I walked on the treadmill for 5 min to warm up, then put I put the treadmill at a 1% grade incline and ran the first mile at 6.0 (slow & steady). It was very comfortable, I could talk, and I felt good. Then for the last half mile I threw in some sprints. The song Spaceman by the Killers is a great song to sprint to. After my 1.5 mile run, it was cool down time, and I just walked on the tread mill for another half mile.
When that was all said and done, I went to a circuit training class (mostly resistance training). It was a pretty good work out day.

Mom in Training - Day 9

It's official! I have decided to train for the Rim Rock marathon this coming November. Truth be told I am scared to death! I have never trained for a marathon before, and let's face it, 26.2 miles is a loooong way to run! When I last ran a half marathon, I could not imagine running another 13 miles, who would be that crazy? Well, it looks like I am.
What's motivates me even more, is that my good friend Priscilla is training for this with me. I'm not sure how effective my training would be if I didn't have a partner in this.
Slow & Steady wins the race, so we have found a training program that starts slow, and gradually builds. Avoiding injury, and making it to the end of the race is the key.

I am excited for this adventure, and so glad I have 9 months to train for this.
I'm starting this entry with Day 9. I have been following the training schedule, but don't have time to go through the other 8 days, but from here on out I will keep a faithful record. Here goes.

Day 9 - Cold & Windy outside, so it's off to the gym & treadmill for me. This can pretty much be expected until it warms up a little. I am a cold weather wimp. 3 miles, felt really good today. I went to a spin class after. That's probably too much, but I do like spinning.
